It is now largely occupied by a small mall known as Asia City. The mall mainly sells cheap goods imported from abroad. The main shopping centre in the area in Eastgate shopping centre, Johannesburg, which is one of the largest shopping centres in Johannesburg. Excellent transport links serve Bruma with the R24 (Gauteng), N12 and N3 Eastern Bypass highways all easily accessible. The R24 highway leads directly to Johannesburg Airport (approximately 15 minutes drive from Bruma). The neighbouring suburb is Cyrildene where a small chinatown exists.

Bruma Lake flea market stands on an old sewerage catchment area turned lakeside market, mall and commercial zone. Bruma Lake mall, in a similar vein to what was called Randburg Waterfront, now Brightwater Commons out in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, is a string of restaurants and shops around a body of water, resembling a waterside village. The Bruma flea market is a great place to browse for bargains and, even though it is past its heyday, Bruma continues to draw the crowds, particularly over a weekend not least because of the exciting line up of stalls, fast food and the live ethnic entertainment. It is also popular with parents who can leave their children at Kids’ World whilst they browse. 

Bruma, which is just 18 kilometres from Sandton city and 15 minutes drive from OR Tambo Airport, is also close to the major arterial routes of the R24, N12 and N3 Eastern bypass.
