Sydenham lies behind the ridge of Berea, neighbouring on Sherwood, Sparks and Clare Hills. Sydenham has quick access onto the N2, N3 and M13 highways and is in close proximity to the commercial centres of Umgeni Business Park and Springfield Park. It is also close to some of the major attractions in Durban like uShaka Marine World, the International Convention Centre and Durban’s famous Golden Mile of beaches.
A focal point of Sydenham is St Philomena's community centre, much favoured by NGOs and other organisations for conferences and functions. Churches, temples and mosques abound in Sydenham, reflecting the variety of communities who reside in the area. Although accommodation for visitors is limited in Sydenham, there are excellent fully serviced lodges available at more modest prices than one is likely to find in most other parts of Durban. |
