The coast town has been proclaimed 'the diamond of the west Coast' because of its white beaches, wild life and lobsters. Although primarily a fishing town it has become one of the major tourist attractions on the West Coast due to the moderate all year climate.

Interesting facts and salvaged items from the British warship, the HMS Sybille can be viewed at the Sandveld Museum and on the farm Steenboksfontein in Lambert's Bay.
