The Capricorn Region of the Limpopo Province in South Africa is characterised by a diversity of landscapes including grassy plains, bushveld, mountain ranges and geological formations. The Capricorn region stretches from the Ysterberg along the lower reaches of the Wolkberg Mountains to the tropic of Capricorn in the north. This region of the Limpopo Province is home to an assortment of cultural villages, game farms, forests, dams and San art. It has numerous archaeological and historical sites, and visitors are also drawn here for the hiking, game viewing and 4x4 adventure safaris the region offers.

The Capricorn Region of the Limpopo Province in South Africa is named after the Capricorn geographical line that passes through here. The Capricorn region is home to Polokwane which is the capital of the Limpopo Province and is one of the fastest growing cities in the southern hemisphere. Polokwane was founded in the gold rush days of the 1880s in an area that has witnessed Stone Age nomads, Iron Age settlements, European migrations, wars and political upheaval.

The Capricorn Region has plenty of historical sites and attractions for the visitor such as San rock art and prehistoric ruins.The region has the largest citrus farm in the southern hemisphere and is also home to the Zion Christian Church at Moria which is the biggest independent church in Africa. The Capricorn Region of the Limpopo Province has a variety of historical and cultural attractions. They range from San rock art to the historical landmarks of the Voortrekkers who arrived here to escape the then government of the Cape.

Makapans Valley is situated near Mokopane in the Capricorn region of the Limpopo Province. Bones of Ape-men over 3 million years old as well as those of extinct animals have been found in this area and at the Cave of Hearths there is thought to be evidence of man's earliest use of fire. South of Polokwane you will find the Eersteling Monument at the site of South Africa’s first powered gold ore crushing plant.

The Capricorn region of the Limpopo Province is steeped in South African history. Years ago the open grasslands and hills of the region were inhabited by nomadic tribes. The Zulu general Mzilikazi who fled from the Zulu King Shaka, traveled through the area on his way north to establish a kingdom in Bulawayo. The two largest citrus estates in the world are situated about 60 km from Polokwane in the Capricorn region.
